Human Brain and Cognition Lab

The Sussman Lab is currently studying how the human brain processes sound. If you are between the ages of 21 and 75, you may be eligible to participate in an EEG research study to help us achieve our goals. The study includes EEG cap placement, watching a movie, and pressing buttons in response to sounds. I hope you consider participating and helping us learn more about the human brain. If you are interested, we will need to complete a short 5-minute survey over the phone to confirm eligibility. After that, we can schedule your visit at a time that is convenient for you.

Participants:

• Normal-hearing adults, ages 21-75
• Male or female
• Spanish speakers are accepted

What to Expect:

• Watch a movie with subtitles
• Respond to sounds by pressing a button
• Session time is approximately 2.5 hours

Participants will receive:

• $60 for one visit
• Snacks & refreshments during breaktime

We are inviting healthy adult males (ages 50+) to participate in our research study on adult male cognition. The study involves two visits, one EEG session (Kennedy Center) and one MRI session (Gruss Magnetic Resonance Research Center), that will take place on separate days. In both sessions you will listen and respond to sounds for part of the time and watch a captioned movie of your choice for the other part of the time. Snacks are provided during break time, and we give each of you a picture of your brain to take home. Each visit is approximately 2.5 hours. You will be paid for participation at each visit.

In this study:

• Watch a movie with subtitles
• Respond to sounds by pressing a button
• Complete paper & pencil tasks
• Approximately 2.5-3 hours

Participants will receive:

• $60 per visit
• An image of their brain
• A hearing exam
• Snacks & refreshments

Help us understand how the brain processes sounds. We are looking for children between the ages of 9 and 16 to participate in a study on auditory processing.

What to Expect:

• Visit 1: Hearing screen & auditory perception screen (1 hour)
• Visit 2: Listen to sounds with EEG cap & watch a movie (1.5 hours)
• Snacks & drinks provided at both visits

Compensation:

• $25 for Visit 1
• $50 for Visit 2
• $75 total compensation

We are asking healthy children (ages 5-12) to participate in our NIH-funded research study about child cognition. The study consists of 4 visits. The first two visits are an EEG and an MRI visit, occurring on separate days. The second EEG and MRI visits occur one year later. In both sessions your child will listen and respond to sounds for part of the time and watch a movie of their choice for the other part of the time.

What to Expect:

• 4 visits total: EEG & MRI on separate days, repeated one year later
• Listen and respond to sounds, watch a movie of their choice
• Each visit is approximately 2-3 hours
• Yummy snacks during break time
• Take home a picture of your brain!

Compensation & Scheduling:

• Paid after each visit
• Morris Park Campus
• Appointments Monday–Sunday, including after school
